Live in the Lobby is a concert series hosted by the Reykjavík Downtown Hostel, which aims to present some of Iceland’s best music to our guests and the world. We will host, record, and film very intimate free concerts in the lobby of the Reykjavík Downtown Hostel. These concerts are open to the public at no cost. Just show up to the hostel, located at Vesturgata 17, early as space is very limited. After each show, we will upload the videos to http://liveinthelobby.tumblr.com/ , so make sure you follow us!

Things are about to get groovy and funky at Reykjavík Downtown Hostel on May 23rd when our very own receptionist, Klara, and her Icelandic disco group, Boogie Trouble, take over our lobby! Put on your dancing shoes and let’s have a party!

The concert will take place in our lobby, hence the name. Again, it is completely free of charge! Just be sure to arrive early as space is very limited.

    2. Romeo and Juliet in Harpa
      19:30 – 23:59

ROMEO AND JULIET – REYKJAVIK ART FESTIVAL

      Hector Berlioz: Roméo et Juliette
      Ilan Volkov conductor
      Guðrún Jóhanna Ólafsdóttir mezzo-soprano
      Sveinn Dúa Hjörleifsson tenor
      Nicolas Cavallier baritone
Kór Áskirkju, Hljómeyki, Söngsveitin Fílharmónía choirs
      Magnús Ragnarsson choir director

For the first time, Iceland will see a performance of Romeo and Juliet by French virtuoso Hector Berlioz. This unique and fascinating composition challenges the symphonic form, resulting in a fusion of orchestral work and opera. Sveinn Dúa Hjörleifsson has attracted admiration for his gorgeous tenor voice and Guðrún Jóhanna Ólafsdóttir has a number of singing awards to her name. French bass Nicolas Cavallier sings the part of Friar Laurence, arriving directly from his performance of the same part at the Paris Bastille Opera.
