About this tour
The tour starts under the Mýrdalsjökull glacier when you gear up for the tour. We recommend you wear clothing that can be easily worn underneath the overalls and because it can get very cold on top of the glacier to take advantage of gloves and such that are free to borrow. From there you will be taking in a jeep or truck up to the glacier from where you will start your snowmobile tour.
Before you head out your guide will take you through safety procedures and give you tips on how to best enjoy your time on the snowmobile. No experience is needed but a valid drivers licence is required. Then you head out further up the glacier and we urge you to keep your eyes open and enjoy the view because it is utterly spectacular.
There is no commentary on the way, only during stops along the way. This tour is more about the snowmobile experience and the view than the actual guidance.
Great addition to your self-drive tour of the south coast
If you want to take a nice break from driving during your self drive tour around the south coast of you Iceland this tour is perfect for that. Driving from Reykjavík heading east on the ring road (Route 1) you turn to the left around 12 km past Skógafoss.
This tour is also available with a transfer from Reykjavík. If you book that option you will be picked up from your hotel or guesthouse in Reykjavík and driven to where the tour takes place, stopping at Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls. If you don’t have a lot of time and you can’t chose between doing something active and sightseeing you can combine both with this version of the tour.
For more information about this tour with pick up from Reykjavík, please be in touch via e-mail.
If you don’t want to share your snowmobile with anyone else and you want to have all the fun of driving it you can pay an extra fee for a single ride. You can also make it private for an additional fee. We especially recommend the private option for families, small groups and those who want to depend less on having other guests control the speed of the tour. Please see Extras in the booking process for more information.
Please note that you always have to pay the single fee if you’re booking for odd number of guests (1,3.5,7….).

“Highlight of the week”
We're a group of ten some couples and friends. The expedition was well guided by our Icelandic duo Bear and Eagle who took us all the way up the glacier, the boys were informative about the local terrain with lots of facts, they are clearly proud to be showing you their country.
We went in the afternoon the scenery was amazing sun setting over the sea surrounded by volcanos. The guys on the tour drove first all the way to the top then the girls took over for the decent. The ski dos are really quick challenging to drive properly, you need to throw your weight around to make them move, we all got to open them up on the snow Awesome!! We all had a great time, well guided trip with good equipment. Would definitely go again.
Four friends and I did a snowmobiling tour on the glacier and it was one of the coolest things I have ever done in my whole life. Our tour started around 15:00 which meant that by the time we were coming back down the glacier the sun was setting. It was so beautiful and our tour guides, who told us to call them Bear and Eagle, were super entertaining, informative, and above all, ensured we had all the proper clothing and safety information. I LOVED this tour.
Wow! Top marks all round.Where shall I start?! An amazing experience for my family, including boy of 12. We were greeted by a friendly receptionist who spoke perfect English, and offered us coffee. The suits and helmets were cosy warm and clean. The transport onto the glacier was an enormous monster truck! Great fun in itself! Clear safe instructions from our guide 'Eagle' . He made us all feel confident and safe. Super powerful snowmobiles whizze d us up the slopes, through powder snow!!! Amazing and exhilarating! Would highly recommend this company, it's not cheap but it's quality, and you get what you pay for. My husband managed to leave his camera behind in his snow suit, and the helpful receptionist posted it back to us in England. How good is that?. Well done! We will be back!
