Coffee in Reykjavík: Te og Kaffi

Today I met with a dear friend of mine and her almost 2 month old son and we decided to take the young one for a little stroll down Laugarvegur. We wanted to sit down somewhere for a cup of coffee and my friend suggested Te og Kaffi. Apparently their latte is really really good.

Te og Kaffi in Laugarvegur 27

Te og Kaffi (Tea and Coffee) was founded in Reykjavík in 1984 by an Icelandic couple that had discovered their love for coffee while living in Sweden. They opened up their first coffee shop in a basement in Barónsstígur and two years later they opened up their first café. Today the Te og Kaffi brand runs roasting facilities, a wholesale division, retail shops and cafés.

Summer frappo with mango and apples – delish

Since I hardly ever drink coffee I decide to go for a summer frappo with mango and apples. It was lovely. I also had a cake that was quite good and my friend stuck with her much loved latte. The young one slept through the entire visit and his drink of choice is breast milk so there’s not much to report from that side.

Although it’s looks like a take away place from the outside – Te og Kaffi also offers seats inside

Te og Kaffi doesn’t have a ton of character but it’s charming in it’s own way. It’s how the coffee tastes that matters anyway and I’ve heard from several coffee drinkers that theirs is excellent. What I do like is that it is kind of quiet and the tables are not on top of each other. I’m also a sucker for everything colourful and there’s plenty of that in the shelves around. Finally I have to give their staff props for very friendly service. I watched them from the distance serve other customers and they did a really good job – with a smile.

Lovely dented ceramic cups – would love to have those in my kitchen

Oh the pretty colours

I think I will surely go back to Te og Kaffi and maybe when I’m feeling particularly adventurous I might even try out their coffee. I’m such a wild one you see. They have free Wifi so it’s the perfect spot to bring your laptop and do a little work. All in all I would recommend you give them a try.

    Dear,

This is Helen and and I’m writing on behalf of cacao, a Taiwan-based independent magazine publishing topics about creativity, art, communication, alchemy and opinion.

I am wondering if you may be interested in featuring your article in our next issue: Reykjavik– City Outlook. The concept of this section is to show our readers a different view of Reykjavik, and instead of a local, we would like to see Reykjavik from a foreigner who lives or works in this city (which is pretty much like what you have been writing on your blog).

Please find the link below to download cacao vol. 4 in pdf for your reference. If you are willing to do this, could you please write a short article less than 300 words and provide me some high resolution photos?

Here are the links to your recent upload:
