Reykjavik for Icelandic Film Fanatics

Bíó Paradís is an independent cinema in Downtown Reykjavík. It is run by a non-profit organization which was founded by The Association of Icelandic Film Producers, The Filmmakers Association, Film Director’s Guild Iceland, Reykjavík International Film Festival and The Cinephiles Society. It has also received financial support from the City of Reykjavík and the Icelandic Film Centre.

Bíó Paradís is more than just a movie theatre. Inside the theatre there is a cozy little café and there’s also a shop that sells DVDs, books and other film-related products. The café even sells beer so you can enjoy a cold one while you wait for your friends or the film to start.

This summer Bíó Paradís will offer daily screenings of Icelandic movies with English subtitles. They will for example be showing Mr.Bjarnfreðarson which features the mayor of Reykjavík, Jón  Gnarr, playing the role of Georg Bjarnfreðarson – one of the most annoying characters in Icelandic film history. They will also offer classics like 101 Reykjavík and Nói Albínói along with less known favorites such as  Benjamin the Dove (I read the book as a kid and cried my eyes out!).

Summer of Icelandic Cinema

Don’t miss: Remote Control, Dreamland, Angels of the Universe and The Big Rescue (for the kids).
